Mónica Moraes R., M.Sc., Licenciatura, Ph.D., Born 4 May 1960 in La Paz, Bolivia. M.Sc. University of Aarhus, Denmark (1989), Licenciatura Universidad Mayor San Andrés, Bolivia (1990), Ph.D. University of Aarhus, Denmark (1996). She is former director of the Institute of Ecology in La Paz and permanent staff member of the National Herbarium. Participated in several research projects dealing with tropical Bolivian vegetation, floristic richness and ecology especially of palms, both in converted and protected areas. She has supervised 26 thesis-students, including two Masters student and one Ph.D. in projects on vegetation features, reproductive biology, and population dynamics of native palms, as well as on ethno-botany, fragmentation, ecology, and plant-animal relationships. She has published extensively on palms, vegetation, and ecology.
